Wherefore Art Thou?
As the years go by, my New Year's resolutions are becoming more extensive. Even my method of jotting them down on separate notes is proving to be quite the challenge. Not as bad as, say, Jim Carrey's post-it episode in Bruce Almighty, but it could be headed that way without some basic ground rules.
Here's my game plan to get 2017 off to a better start. To wit:
a) discard any resolution that can't be broken into weekly or daily tasks; b) the resolution must make sense for my profession and life (resolving to grow my practice makes sense, leaving law to become a neurosurgeon does not); and c) the resolution cannot be a make-or-break, all or nothing deal.
As legal professionals, there is so much self-imposed pressure to exceed the mark; let us also remember going into this year the value of extending a bit more kindness in setting our own standards.
Best wishes to everyone for a healthy and prosperous New Year!
